Canidae Helps The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank Provide 250,000 Dog and Cat Meals to Oregon Families

Source: PRLog.com, Feb 15, 2010

CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods has partnered with The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank in Portland, Oregon to distribute super-premium pet food to anyone in need. Beginning with an unprecedented donation of $125,000 USD last year, the pet food company continues to assist The Pongo Fund’s founder Larry Chusid to fulfill his vision of helping families in need stay together by ensuring that they are able to feed their companion animals.

“One person shared how their pets were finally not panicking at the time of being fed, so that the hoarding and throwing up due to frenzied eating actually had become minimal and that the animals were finally feeling secure that tomorrow would bring more food. Another man cried and told me stories how his two 14 year old cats depended on him and how they made him get out of bed every day. One lovely older women teared up and confessed that she never thought she would be in such a situation as she is in today. Her son cried and thanked me for our assistance,” said Shannon, one The Pongo Fund’s dedicated volunteers.

The Pongo Fund is already providing thousands of pet meals every month, and is poised to handle a greater distribution capacity as news continues to spread throughout the Northwest. The charity’s professional volunteer coordinator ensures that the 50 active volunteers are well trained and ready to offer dignified assistance to families in need. The Pongo Fund has 200 more people on a waiting list ready to help as demand continues to grow.

On January 24, 2010, guests were lined up around the corner waiting in the rain for the pet food bank doors to open at noon. “In just three short hours we were honored to provide more than 13,000 quality meals for the 465 dog and cat family members of 135 families,” said founder Larry Chusid, who continued, “What began as an effort little more than two years ago to feed two hungry dogs underneath the Morrison Bridge has blossomed into Oregon’s largest single charitable effort dedicated to providing quality dog and cat food for the family pets of anyone in honest need; nearly 250,000 meals to date.”

The Pongo Fund and CANIDAE Pet Foods reach out beyond the pet food bank as well. The extensive distribution of CANIDAE dog and cat food includes support for some two dozen non-profit community organizations in Oregon & Washington, many of whom are experiencing a decline in donations and need extra assistance.

In addition to receiving free super-premium pet food, guests at the pet food bank are given nutritional information and tips for safely transitioning their dogs to an all natural, premium diet. “A lot of these folks were surprised to find that they needed less CANIDAE than the pet foods from grocery stores they were used to feeding,” said CANIDAE Controller Jason Castillo. “We explained that because CANIDAE doesn’t contain the corn, wheat and fillers that some other brands do, there is a lot more nutrition in each pound.”

The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank is centrally located in Portland, directly across from the Oregon Convention Center and is open the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Anyone who expresses a genuine need is welcome to receive a two week supply of premium Canidae or Felidae pet food for their dogs or cats. Details at www.thepongofund.org.

Happy Tails Publishing Searching for Submissions

Happy Tails Books publishes compilations of stories from people who have adopted dogs. Their breed-specific “Lost Souls: Found!” series showcases the love and joy these adopted dogs bring to their new homes in an effort to raise awareness of, and funding for dog rescue organizations.

Happy Tails Books is currently working on books about Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Pugs, Boxers and mixes thereof, and they’ve asked me to share their information in case you’d like to submit a story about your adopted dog(s). Guidelines and a submission form are located at http://happytailsbooks.com/submit.htm. You can send in a complete story about your dog (600-1200 words), a paragraph about something sweet or funny he/she did, a training/health challenge and how it was solved, a poem, or a recipe. They are also looking for high resolution, professional-quality photos for the front and back covers. Be sure to list the rescue you are associated with in the submission form (if applicable – dog don’t need to be from a rescue, they just can’t be purchased from a pet store or breeder), as rescues earn points from each story submitted or book purchased, and then the points turn into a donation at the end of the year.

Natural Dog Food Maker to Hold Drawing for Animal Shelter to Receive Charitable Donation

Source: Businesswire.com

Dynamite Marketing, which makes natural dog food and nutritional supplements such as a probiotic for dog health, is inviting Facebook fans to enter a drawing to give 200 pounds of its Super Premium Dog Food as a charitable donation to the animal shelter of the winner’s choice.

In addition, Dynamite will donate one pound of natural dog food to the Idaho Humane Society for every fan who signs up by March 19.

This continues Dynamite’s practice of making charitable donations as an incentive. Last year it offered top distributors the choice of a prize such as a trip to Hawaii or a charitable donation to the organization of their choice. The result was $22,000 in donations to animal charities.

“We tossed around ideas in our brainstorming sessions, trying to determine what would really motivate people who use our dog food and other products,” said Callie Novak, Dynamite vice president. “They are passionate about making the world better. We attract people driven by projects that help animals, improve soil, and save lives. The local animal shelter is always a favorite, and a place where we can contribute to dog health. For many of our fans, giving to a charity actually is more of a motivation than a personal prize.”

Dynamite has been making all natural dog food for four generations. It also makes natural food and nutritional supplements for cats, horses and virtually every member of the animal kingdom. Dynamite products are available through more than 4,000 individual distributors across the country.

All products use only natural ingredients and are made in the United States for quality control. Dynamite’s recently developed Ultimate Dog Food is a raw, natural dog food that does not need to be refrigerated.

Why is it that as a society, our diets have taken a positive turn towards whole, organic, and unprocessed foods, yet our “best friends” are still getting servings of dry or greasy mystery chunks? What is really in your dog’s food?

The nation’s top selling dog food contains the following ingredients: Meat by-products, Modified corn starch, Soy flour, Potassium chloride, Tricalcium phosphate, Titanium dioxide colour, Salt, choline chloride, ferrous sulfate, Thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, vitamin B-12 supplement, pyroxidine hydrochloride, potassium iodide, folic acid, and sodium selenite.

What a mouthful – literally.

And what in the world are those ingredients? www.RagazziLife.com (the social network for dog owners) will be hosting an event on Wednesday December 9th from 6:30-9:30pm with special guest canine nutritionist and behavioral Stacy Alldredge. Stacy will dispel rumors and concerns associated with home cooked, natural and well balanced dog cuisine as well as prepare and create special tasting menus for all dogs to enjoy!

Does Fido need to lose a couple pounds? Is Spot allergic to most foods? Should Boomer just eat healthier? Stacy will present three different recipes that target and help your dog’s dietary issues. With Stacy’s certified nutrition expertise, no pooch will leave hungry, but they’ll all leave healthier. And with ingredients straight out of most people’s traditional holiday dinner menu (apples, asparagus, turkey, fish, beef, pasta, rice and more), event attendees will know that their dogs are eating as well as they are this holiday season.”

CANIDAE Pet Foods Helps The Pongo Fund Launch Largest Pet Food Bank in the United States

Source: PRWeb, Nov 19, 2009

Pet food company donates truckloads of premium pet food to The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank in Portland, Oregon enabling them to distribute high quality dog food and cat food to the animals of anyone in need, helping to keep families together in challenging economic times.

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2009 — CANIDAE Pet Foods, a manufacturer of all natural dog and cat food, has donated $125,000 USD worth of premium pet food to The Pongo Fund, allowing Larry Chusid, Founder and Executive Director, to open the nation’s largest pet food bank.

The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank opened Sunday, November 8, 2009, operating out of a warehouse in Portland, directly across from the Oregon Convention Center. Over 30 enthusiastic volunteers were on hand to help ensure that everyone with a genuine need would receive a two week supply of premium pet food for each of their dogs or cats. In addition to receiving free pet food, recipients were given nutritional information and tips for safely transitioning their dogs to an all natural, premium diet. All recipients were all invited to return every two weeks to receive more food for their companion animals, so long as they had a need.

“Our first day was exceptional, a perfectly joyful opportunity to help the community,” explained The Pongo Fund Founder Larry Chusid. “We were able to effortlessly guide each person through the facility, providing them with food and nutritional advice, in only a matter of minutes. Providing a respectful and efficient experience will be critical as we expect to help more and more people as news of the pet food bank spreads. Our goal is to be able to provide eight tons of free premium pet food every month.”

In addition to the homeless, many of the people who arrived on opening day had a place to live, but were unemployed and so were unable to feed their companion animals. “Pets mean so much to people, they’d do anything for them. If people can’t afford to feed their pet, they have to give them up. The Pongo Fund fills a unique need… they help keep families together by feeding the pets,” said Lael Concordia, Director of Social Services at William Temple House, another Portland organization that helps individuals and families in crisis.

The Mayor of Portland, Sam Adams, was so impressed with Chusid’s vision and the unprecedented donation from CANIDAE, that he declared Sunday, November 8, 2009 to be “CANIDAE All Natural Pet Foods Day” in the city.

“A lot of these folks were surprised to find that they needed less CANIDAE than the pet foods from grocery stores they were used to feeding,” said CANIDAE Sales Manager Jon Tingle. “We explained that because CANIDAE doesn’t contain the corn, wheat and fillers that some other brands do, there is a lot more nutrition in each pound. We asked everyone to fill out a Pet Profile so the next time they come we can quickly give them the right amount of food for their dog or cat.”

Chusid spotted one man leaving the pet food bank with only a 4 pound bag of FELIDAE cat food. He was concerned the man did not take enough to last two weeks and caught up with him outside the warehouse. When asked, the man said he only had one very small cat and four pounds was, “all he needed.” When offered an additional bag of Felidae, the man graciously declined. “I don’t want to take more than I need; I want to make sure there’s enough for everyone else.”

Among the volunteers were representatives from all three Healthy Pets Northwest stores including Laura Amiton from the Alberta District store, Julie Cantonwine from the Hawthorne District store, and Mike Carroll and Barb Cantonwine from the Multnomah Village store. They offered their years of expertise in pet nutrition to the needy dog and cat owners and were among those that helped to calculate the right amount of food to last each pet for two weeks.

After opening, an anonymous individual was so impressed with The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank that he called Chusid to donate $3,000 for purchase of even more CANIDAE. “We are thrilled that the community has responded so well. Sometimes it’s simply a bowl of kibble that can keep a family together and save the lives of the animals they love,” said Chusid.

The Pongo Fund Pet Food Bank is open the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Details at www.thepongofund.org.
